Creating A Perfect Smile

Hi there, I'm Caylee Curtis. After going through orthodontic therapy during childhood, I started paying close attention how a nice smile can increase beauty. With appearance improvements, comes a huge confidence boost that can also bolster your looks. Upon making that discovery, I started researching all of the different ways people can create a gorgeous smile. As it turns out, dentists play a huge role creating a gorgeous smile by fixing tooth and jaw alignment issues. Dentists may recommend that their patients obtain braces, retainers or veneers that improve tooth placement or color. I will use this site to share information about these procedures and more. I hope to help you decide if these procedures are worth your time and money or if you should find a different option for your situation. Please visit often and check out my content to learn more information.

3 Things To Now About Dental Implants

Unless you work with teeth on a regular basis when you hear the words, "dental implants," they may not mean a thing to you. So, what can you do if you find out that your dentist wants you to get some dental implants? Learn more about them, of course. This article will take a closer look at three things for you to know about dental implants. Are you ready to learn more? Read on.

1. Why Dental Implants?

When you have a mouth full of missing teeth or if you have one missing tooth, if you don't have it filled, it may result in bone loss. Why? Because if you don't have anything in that part of your mouth, it will signal to your mouth that it no longer needs that bone there. The result? A weakened jaw bone. But, if you have something in its place, it prevents you from suffering from bone loss or any sort of deterioration. There are a variety of different types of oral prostheses which include dental implants, dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures.

2. What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the closest thing that you can get to a permanent dental prosthesis. So, how do they work? They are a two-step process which involve a dental implant (a metal rod) and a dental crown (which acts as your tooth). During this procedure, your dentist will surgically implant the metal rod into your gums. After they have healed for several months, your dentist will then place a dental crown over the top of the implant. The result? A practically permanent false tooth.

3. What Is Recovery Like?

The recovery from a dental implant takes several months after the first step. On average, your mouth will be tender and sore for the first couple of days. During the first few days, your dentist may recommend that you eat foods that are soft so and that you ice your cheek. Then, after the first couple of days, you should feel fine, but your gums will still need time to heal. As long as everything has healed after a couple of months, your dentist will place the dental crown over the top, and you should be good to go.

As you can see, there are several benefits to dental implants that your dentist can talk about with you in even more detail. If you want to learn more about dental implants and whether or not they are the right fit for you, schedule a thorough appointment with your dental implant services.
